A clear operating agreement for course records.

1. Accepting these terms

By creating an account or using LogBook, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. LogBook is provided by Syed Systems. If you use LogBook for an institution, you also confirm that you are authorized to use it for that institution's course work.

2. What LogBook is

LogBook is a course operations workspace for instructors. It supports rosters, attendance, assessments, grade calculations, report cards, exports, course routines, and instructor-directed communication. It may continue working offline and synchronize changes when a connection is available.

LogBook is not your institution's official student information system, records office, grading policy, or legal/compliance adviser. You remain responsible for checking records and following your institution's rules before publishing or submitting official results.

3. Your account

• Keep your sign-in details and recovery methods secure.
• Provide information that is accurate enough to operate your account.
• Do not share your account or allow unauthorized people to use it.
• Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
• You are responsible for activity performed through your account.

4. Your records and responsibilities

You retain ownership of the courses, student records, attendance, grades, notes, reports, and other content you provide. You give Syed Systems a limited, non-exclusive permission to host, encrypt, process, synchronize, display, export, and transmit that content only as needed to provide, secure, troubleshoot, and improve LogBook.

Before adding or sending records, you are responsible for:

• having the authority and appropriate permissions to use the data;
• using only the information needed for your educational workflow;
• checking grades, recipients, attachments, and message content before sending;
• keeping a copy of important exports when your institution requires one.

5. Sync, exports, and email

Offline work is designed to sync later, but a device can remain out of sync because of connectivity, a closed session, or an unresolved error. Check the sync status before relying on a change as the current shared record. Exports are tools to help you prepare records; review them before treating them as official submissions.

When you ask LogBook to send a grade report or course message, you direct that action and are responsible for the recipients and content. Connected email providers may apply their own sending limits, security checks, and terms.

6. Acceptable use

You may not use LogBook to:

• access another person's workspace or attempt to bypass access controls;
• store unrelated, unlawful, or unnecessarily sensitive information;
• scrape, copy, probe, reverse engineer, or overload the service;
• upload malware or content intended to damage, disrupt, or surveil others;
• send deceptive, abusive, or unauthorized messages.

7. Security and service boundaries

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the service, but no online system, device, or email channel is completely risk-free. You are responsible for securing devices that contain local or exported copies of your records.

We work to keep LogBook available, but maintenance, provider outages, connectivity problems, errors, and events outside our control can affect access or synchronization. Where permitted by law, the service is provided on an "as available" basis without a promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free.

8. Third-party services

Authentication, hosting, database, email, and optional sign-in providers help deliver LogBook. Those providers may have separate terms, privacy policies, availability, and limits. Your use of a connected provider is also governed by the agreement you have with that provider.

9. Suspension and termination

You may stop using LogBook and request account deletion at any time. We may restrict or end access when reasonably necessary to protect users, the service, or a provider, or when an account materially violates these terms. Deletion and backup handling are described in the Privacy Policy.

10. Changes to LogBook or these terms

LogBook will evolve as we improve the product. We may add, change, or retire features and may update these terms. For material changes, we will provide notice through the service or by email where appropriate. If you continue using LogBook after the updated terms take effect, you accept the updated terms.
